Police asked act on torture flights

On 30 November, Lothian and Borders police said that they were considering a request from Green MSPs Mark Ballard and Robin Harper to investigate their concerns that crimes may have been committed in Scottish airspace.

Franco Frattini, EU commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security, said on 29 November that under EU law, if reports of secret CIA jails in Europe were true, states would face "serious consequences, including the suspension of the right to vote in the council". According to a recent report in the Washington Post, CIA torture centres in eastern Europe are amongst the destinations of "rendition" flights that refuel at Scottish Airports.
